Know the Net, Dell Inc.

Know the Net, USA

About Dell: Dell Inc. is the world's third-largest corporation developing, selling and supporting personal computers and other computer-related products.

Project: In 2000, Dell founder and CEO, Michael Dell, discovered that many teachers and students did not understand the basic fundamentals of using the internet and kids learned more about surfing at home than at school.

Solution: Creation of two educational sites, Know the Net for Teachers and Know the Net for Kids. Each site stepped users through:

  • browser basics, net etiquette, navigation, searching
  • useful, fun and intersting sites
  • a quiz to test their knowledge
The kids' site was customisable and played like a fun game.
The teachers' site contained lesson plans and teaching resources.

Outcome:  Became the cornerstone of Michael Dell's dedication to improving teachers' and kids' understanding of their online experience as demonstrated in his 2001 keynote speech to the FutureFocus Conference in Denmark.

My role: As Senior Content Specialist at Full Moon Interactive, I wrote and edited content; worked with designer to develop look and feel.
