The Big Leap Online Game, Western Australia

About CBS: As a division of Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia, Curtin Business School offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various business specialties to international, Australian and local students.

Project: In 2004, CBS needed to increase first-preference enrolments of local WA high school graduates and implement a content strategy that would make the prospect of studying business appealing and “cool” as well as a means to a good profession and solid future.

Solution: Creation of an online game that challenged users to:

• select a profession
• make business and lifestyle decisions
• see where they were in 10 years time

Outcome:  The site was a successful cornerstone of CBS’ year-12 marketing strategy for several years, increasing CBS enquiries from high school students by 15 percent. In 2004, the site won The Vice Chancellor’s Award for Innovative Excellence.

My role: As Online Editor, I devised concept and details; researched, wrote and edited game scenarios; liaised with design vendor and IT team to build and implement.
