Radio Aahs

Radio Aahs Magazine and Website, USA

About Radio Aahs: Produced by New York design agency, Doublespace and co-published by the Children's Broadcasting Commission (CBC) and Warner Music Enterprises, Radio Aahs Magazine was the print publication of Radio Aahs, the only national children's radio station in the US during the nineties.

Project: Radio Aahs Magazine was aimed at kids aged between five and ten years old and contained four sections loosely based on characters (Aahsie and Ka'Zoo) and segments presented on the radio station:

  • All-American alarm clock: letters, weather, pets, interesting facts and news
  • Aahsie's Garage: agony aunt, kid heroes, favourite things, kids and culture from around the world
  • Ka'Zoo Lounge: music reviews, features, interviews, celebrities discussing their childhoods
  • Avenue A: games, puzzles, crafts, environmental tips, recipes, columns
The magazine also featured a pull-out parent review guide of games, books and music (with direct ordering facility) and CD of the month's top 10 hits and music/media.

The website featured extended content not included in the magazine.

Outcome:  After 11 bumper issues Radio Aahs Magazine suspended publication in early 1996 when Warner Music Enterprises folded and CBC failed to find another co-publisher. The website continued publishing features and content for another year.

My role: As Managing Editor I wrote, edited and commissioned content; managed the magazine and parent guide's production; collaborated with design team; liaised with publishers and ordering facilities; managed online content throughout 1996.
